Degassing and Decontamination Services For Refineries
Keep Pace With A Changing Industry

Regulatory, safety and environmental requirements combine to place ever-increasing demands on system decontamination at refineries and other petrochemical operations. ChemStation responds to those demands with an array of degassing and decontamination products designed to remove volatile organics in process equipment. Our alkaline and neutral products help reduce downtime, increase safety levels and meet stringent environmental and wastewater treatment specifications.

NO BENZENE, NO HYDROGEN SULFIDE

ChemStation's decontamination solutions eliminate both benzene and hydrogen sulfide present in vessels and piping. Our vapor phase process provides faster and safer results on benzene and sulfides during steam-outs. We also have the ability to cut pyrophoric iron during the wash cycle.

CHEMSTATION 1088 -- A SUPER-DETERGENT SOLUTION

ChemStation's 1088 is a safe, non-hazardous, non-petroleum based product designed specifically for degassing/decontamination in tanks, towers and other vessels.  This proprietary blend of surfactants, penetrating and wetting agents and specially selected safe chemicals meets even the most rigorous personnel safety, environmental and waste water conditions.

CLEANING BENEFITS

1088 offers a wide range of cleaning benefits, including:

bullet Reducing benzene and other volatile hydrocarbon content
bullet Reducing hydrogen sulfide levels
bullet Reducing ammonia levels
bullet No oil emulsification
bullet Improving oil recovery
bullet Effective use on paraffinic and asphaltenic crudes
bullet Reducing the need for mechanical cleaning
bullet Aiding in the cleaning and removal of coke and carbonized deposits

  CHEMICAL ACTION

Any successful degassing of a vessel requires the removal of residual hydrocarbons found in both liquid and vapor form.  ChemStation's 1088 surface active ingredients are designed to replace surface-coated oils with water molecules.  Residual oils are then ``lifted" off the metal surfaces and suspended in the circulating cleaning fluid.  Oil particles are encapsulated in the envelope of water-soluble surfactants.

ChemStation 1088 is both safe and effective.  Among its safety advantages are:

bullet No hazardous materials
bullet HMIS rated zero in all categories
bullet NFPA rated zero in all categories
bullet Suppresses ignition of hydrocarbons
bullet Neutral pH
bullet No volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
bullet No flash point
bullet No caustics
bullet Completely water soluble

ChemStation 1088 will not strongly emulsify system residual oils.  That means a more rapid phase separation of the oils after the circulation fluid has been removed from the vessel.  The residual water oils can be recovered and disposed.  The remaining waste water will be relatively free of oils and can be sent directly to the wastewater plant for processing.

Other key environmental benefits include:

bullet Will not harm nitrifying bacteria
bullet Enhances wastewater treatment plant bacterial growth
bullet Biodegradable
bullet Reduces water consumption
bullet Reduces hazardous waste

  APPLYING CHEMSTATION 1088

ChemStation 1088 can be applied by a number of methods: spray, vat soaking or cascading. A sufficient volume of treating fluid should be supplied to allow for continuous circulation.  The circulation fluid should be heated to 150-200 degree F and circulated between six and 24 hours, depending on the deposits present and the size of the vessel. As water vapor pressure increases during the decontamination process, the vessel should be vented to relieve the pressure.

A fluid cascade is recommended for towers and columns.
For tanks, a spray nozzle system works best when applying the product.

  CHEMSTATION NATUR-CLEAN IP

Natur-Clean IP is a water-based detergent that incorporates the environmentally-safe solvent d-limonene. This aqueous general purpose cleaner, composed of biodegradable surfactants, alkaline detergents, coupling agents, non-petroleum based solvents, flocculants and emulsifiers, is designed to clean vessel surfaces of oil residuals.  It is not intended to remove gaseous, vapor phase hydrocarbons.

Natur-Clean IP's cleaning effectiveness helps reduce both downtime and the amount of wastewater generated. Designed as a water external micro-emulsion cleaner, Natur-Clean IP contains encapsulated solvents and rinses freely with water. It even adds a pleasant orange-like aroma to the vessel.

  APPLYING NATUR-CLEAN IP

ChemStation's Natur-Clean IP is ideally suited for hard and painted surfaces.  It may be applied by brushing or spraying followed by a water rinse.  Using hot water for dilution and flushing aids in soil removal.  Natur-Clean IP can be used with all types of sprayers, pressure washers and foam cleaning equipment.

  CHEMSTATION HDC-399

This highly alkaline water-based detergent cleaner can be used on tile, concrete or metal surfaces. HDC-399 blends non-ionic and anionic wetting, penetrating, and emulsifying agents with inorganic ``builders" for water softening and detergency. That combination creates a product with superior performance and economy for removing light to medium-heavy industrial soils.  HDC-399 contains no inorganic phosphate builders.

APPLYING HDC-399

ChemStation HDC-399 can be used safely to remove a variety of soils, including oils, floor wax, carbon black and solvents. It is especially effective in steam cleaning systems. Acting much like Natur-Clean IP, HDC-399 uses organic degradation, solvency and emulsion.  But because it uses a different surfactant, it tends to produce a more stable emulsion of oil and wastewater. HDC-399 requires a longer time to complete the oil and water separation.  Also, the product may be applied through re-circulation and steaming.  Any emulsions produced with HDC-399 are easily broken up with traditional separation techniques.

CHEMSTATION A-1010

A mildly alkaline water-based detergent, ChemStation A-1010 has been designed as a general purpose cleaner for a variety of industrial applications.  Composed of biodegradable, synthetic surfactants, mildly alkaline detergents, buffering compounds and coupling agents, A-1010 is safe on most paints and construction materials.

It is best suited for those applications where light oils and other light-end hydrocarbons are expected. The most effective product available for degassing of low API gravity hydrocarbon processing vessels, A-1010 brings significant cost savings, including up to a 50% reduction of steam usage and a 50% reduction in downtime.

APPLYING A-1010

A-1010 may be applied by any convenient spray method, portable foam applicator, or through hydraulic jet stream cleaning equipment.  It is particularly effective in applications where an alkali containing cleaner would harm materials or alter the ecology of receiving waters, or where personnel safety concerns demand a product with minimal hazardous ingredients.
